Yes, and Even More!

The Poem of My Life

"Bobby, your whole life is a poem."
Yes, and even more.
"Even more?"
Yes, and thank you for helping me to understand something about my recent poems.
"Like what?"
Like some of the subtle hints I got as feedback
-- like Del's walking around the room holding
one of my new poem in her hands
-- shaking her head and saying,
No, this can't be a poem, no, no . . .
So thanks for reminding me that I'm sharing the poem of my life
-- that I'm saying Yes to life.
"Yes, and even more."
Are you ready to say Yes to life?
"Yes, and even more."

Note: Written on August 9, 1996 about 5:10 pm in the kitchen of their Seascape Villa C33 on Miramar Beach in Florida. Kathy Nichols is the other voice in this poem. She actually said the first line. The other lines were changed slightly to fit the poem. The episode with Bobby's wife, Del, actually happened. She is his reader of first resort, so she typically gets the raw material, newly mined and unrefined. She said to him once, "Your poems bend my mind." That led him to write the poemlet, Process Windows.
