The Violet-n-Joey Cartoon page is been divided into two pages: one low-speed and one high-speed access. If you have Do NOT Have High-Speed Access, you may try this Link which will load much faster and will allow you to load one cartoon at a time. Use this one for High-Speed Access.
This month Violet and Joey learn about Initiative, Illusions, and A Verbal Happening.
Each month we take time to thank two of our good readers of Good Mountain Press Digest, books and reviews. Here's our two worthy Honored Readers for this month. One of their names will be in the TO: address line of your email Digest notification. Our Honored Readers for December are:
This month I'm reminded of a Christmas story involving my eight year old grandson, Gabriel,
that happened a couple of years ago while he was still in pre-school. My daughter Maureen came
to the door of Gabe's school to pick him up and the teacher came to the door laughing so hard
that she had trouble speaking. Maureen asked, "What happened?" and the teacher answered in
spurts as she caught her breath. "It's your son, Gabriel."
"Oh, no, what's he done now?" Maureen asked apprehensively.
"We had been singing Christmas Carols and stopped so he could go to the rest room. From
through the door we could hear Gabriel singing Jingle Bells like this:
'Jingle Bells ...uhnn... Jingle Bells . . . uhnnn... Jingle all the way. uhnn, uhnnn'."
Well, it's been a quiet month in Lake Wobegon, oops, how did Garrison Keilor get in here?
Actually it's been a busy month, getting recovered from our long trip up the East Coast and ready
for a trip to our offsprings' homes to the west of us. On our Thanksgiving swing we went to our
daughter Yvette's new home in Bellaire, Texas. We brought some oyster dressing and a 24 lb
turkey to stuff it. We figured out how to use the new ovens and every thing came out beautifully.
While I was there I had a year long project to complete - get the last two of our fifteen grandkids
footprints on my cooking apron. On Thanksgiving Day, while the acrylic texture paint was
drying on the apron, we got a call from Seattle that my son Rob's wife, Jami, is pregnant for their
third child! 16! How sweet it is!
The weekend after Thanksgiving Day we visited our Central Louisiana kids, Kim and Wes, and
the three grandkids they've given us. Wes and I went duck hunting on Saturday and Sunday and
had great weather and a lot of fun. Four mallards volunteered for our Christmas meal and I gave
them a proper four gun salute. They'll be all dressed and decorated for their big day, when they
get to become part of a Cajun family.
During November, another event of note, my cousin Brian Matherne, my family's doctor, was
married at St. Ann's Church in Bourg with a lovely reception along Bayou Terrebonne.
Congratulations, Brian and Marianne! All the best to you and yours in the coming years.
I was at the Saints-Jets game when a Jets player tried to twist the head of Aaron Brooks, our
quarterback, completely around during a tackle after a running gain down to the goal line. Would
certainly stop him from running through the Jets' line again. Kyle Turley stripped the headgear
off the offending player and came out of the stack of players on the field looking like Braveheart
holding the head of the vanquished player. All he needed was blue paint on his face to complete
the picture. I doubt opposing linemen will ever attempt such an egregious and malicious act on
our quarterback again. Next time Kyle may include the head inside the helmet. In a miscarriage
of justice, Kyle was thrown out of the game and the offending lineman left in the game. The
Saints, in a saintly act of post WTC kindness, have allowed both New York teams to win games
from the Saints that they should have lost this year. I met an old friend at the game, Mike
Gambino, an optometrist now working in Dallas. Hi, Mike!
The living room is a maze of wrapped Christmas presents and tomorrow we get our Frazier Fir
and begin putting up our Christmas tree.
On a serious note, I ask for your prayers for my brother Paul who was in the hospital with a
potentially dangerous blood clot and Del's Aunt Ruth who is recovering from a stroke last
month. Paul is doing well, and Aunt Ruth will require some physical therapy. Also we lost a
young friend of our three sons at age 35, one of the Marcie Street boys who called Del "Mom"
and was a frequent visitor to our Marcie house. Marty Kevin Worley, may you rest in peace and
May the Light of Christ Shine upon You.

The April Digest #11 is now posted on the website. To it I added a photo of my grandson Chris
Bayhi holding a copy of my dolphin novel, "The SPIZZNET File", which is graced by artwork
that Chris produced at the tender age of five. See it at: http://www.doyletics.com/digest11.htm
A friend asked me the following question, "Know any doyletics tricks to get rid of lingering lung
infections?" The answer has been posted on the website on the Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
page at http://www.doyletics.com/faq.htm#Bronchitis
Another question that comes up is, "How do you do speed traces with children?" I've added an
expanded answer which has instructions for the "surreptitious speed trace with children" on the
FAQ page as well at: http://www.doyletics.com/faq.htm#Childtrace
This is a true story, and while not a Christmas story per se, it shows what great things the faith of
a small child can do.
A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it
"was too crowded." "I can't go to Sunday School" she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.
Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the
hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday School class. The child was so
touched that she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship
Jesus.
Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings and the parents
called for the kindhearted pastor, who had befriended their daughter, to handle the final
arrangements. As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled purse was found
which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside was found 57 cents and a
note scribbled in childish handwriting which read, "This is to help build the little church bigger
so more children can go to Sunday School.
For two years she had saved for this offering of love. When the pastor tearfully read that note,
he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the
pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons to get
busy and raise enough money for the larger building.
But the story does not end there! A newspaper learned of the story and published it. It was read
by a Realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the
church could not pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents. Church members made large
donations. Checks came from far and wide.
Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,000.00--a huge sum for that time (near
beginning of 20th Century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividends. When you are in the city
of Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300 and Temple
University, where hundreds of students are trained. Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan
Hospital and at a Sunday School building which houses hundreds of Sunday scholars, so that no
child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday School time.
In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl
whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait
of her kind pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of Diamonds"---a true
story.
Art is not created from other art, contrary to what many think. Kitsch is created from other art. Artists do not bring their intellect to bear in creating original art because the intellect requires something to exist before it can operate; to be rational is to create a ratio between two things that already exist. The term rational artist is an oxymoron, rightly understood. The job of a true artist is to manifest the hidden laws of nature, which without the artist would never come into external manifestation and fruition. Here's how Steiner said it:
[page 32] The element of intellect dragged down into art would produce nothing but barren, allegorical symbolism, Spiritual Science leads to actual perception, to concrete understanding of the spiritual world. The content of the spiritual world can then be woven into the material world. In the highest degree we strive to fulfil Goethe's demand, namely, that Art should be a manifestation of secret laws of Nature which, without her, could never bear fruit.
What is alchemy, what does it have to do with happiness, and why is this man with a weird name writing about it? And why did I buy all of his dozen and a half books and read them cover to cover, sometimes, like this one, multiple times?
[page 12] Happiness cannot be bought or sold, nor can you give it to a person who has not got it. Happiness is your own being, your own self, that self that is the most precious thing in life. All religions, all philosophical systems, have in different forms taught man how to find it by the religious path or the mystical way; and all the wise ones have in some form or another given a method by which the individual can find that happiness for which the soul is seeking. Sage and mystics have called this process alchemy.
I hear often from my Good Readers that they have bought books after reading my book reviews.
Keep reading, folks! As I like to remind you, to obtain more information on what's in these
books, buy and read the books — for less information, read the reviews.
The book will eventually be available in E-book, hardback, or paperback form. There is also a
Glassbooks version in the offing. You will be able to order a copy at B. Dalton, Walden, Barnes
& Noble, Borders or amazon.com, but it may take up to six months to get it into Books in Print.
The best source in the meantime is to order your copies from the Xlibris website above.

My reviews are not intended to replace the purchasing and reading of the reviewed books, but rather to supplant a previous reading or to spur a new reading of your own copy. What I endeavor to do in most of my reviews is to impart a sufficient amount of information to get the reader comfortable
with the book so that they will want to read it for themselves. My Rudolf Steiner reviews are more detailed and my intention is bring his work to a new century of readers by converting his amazing insights into modern language and concepts.
